Welcome To Oamaru On Fire!
This years Oamaru On Fire, steam, sound and lighting spectacular, was a huge success which organisers Jan Kennedy and Anton Roswell said highlighted Oamaru's Habour street district and brought thousands of people out for a family night of fun and entertainment.
It was billed as a step up from the amazing result last year, and comments from people attending said it definitely delivered.
Harbour St was "On Fire" Friday May 31st 2013 with flame lighting and controlled explosions plus a Fireworks finale from the breakwater over Oamaru Harbour which could be seen as far as Weston.
It featured live performances from local bands, Pressure, Marooned, Bethany Cannon and international act The Beat Girls.
Feature lighting displays, smoke effects, controlled explosions, projected images and films were all very popular with all ages !
With the most photographed images being the General Lee from Dukes of Hazzard, the Bumblebee Camaro from Transformers and the many "fire" pots which burst into flame in time with the music pumping down Harbour street.
The fire eaters, fire jugglers, amazing belly dancers and a masquerade march from local international artist Donna Demente, as well as The amazing traction engine, and hot rods plus demonstrations from the NZ fire service including the command unit were extremely popular too.
It showcased our town's outstanding Victorian architecture to locals and visitors, Oamaru 'On Fire' is a major event, which in its first year was incredibly successful with over 3,400 people enjoying the evening, this year saw a healthy increase in attendance.
The event kicked off the Steampunk NZ Festival, creating an ideal opportunity for a weekend stay in Oamaru for out-of-town visitors, most importantly entertainment for the whole family.
